Bancho area originally took shape during the days of the shoguns, as a samurai residential quarter. From the Meiji period (1868–1912) onward, it became the abode of high government officials, firmly establishing its historic pedigree and luxurious cachet. Situated opposite the Imperial Palace, Bancho is close by Chidorigafuchi Park and Kitanomaru Park, where cherry blossoms burst forth in brilliant profusion each spring.
